A Review for: Jo-Jo's Bizarre Adventure - Stardust Crusaders

Do you remember the 90’s?

In the west, it was the time for grunge rock and acid washed jeans.

In Japan, it was a time for super muscular men walking across countries kicking the asses of other super muscular men who are all working for another super muscular man, who is considered sexy for some reason and is really creepy.

Enter: JoJo’s Bizarre Adventure

Or at least the 2014 remake of it...

The tale of a man named Jotaro, the delinquent son of a Japanese jazz musician and the sweet, kind-hearted, and beloved daughter of Joseph Joestar, the worldly (and nonsensical) master of the art of the Ripple (YEAH! I KNOW THE NAME SOUNDS STUPID! I DIDN’T COME UP WITH IT!)

Jotaro and Joseph are the inheritors of not just massive amounts of money, bulging muscles, and the world’s dumbest super power, but they have inherited the rivalry of their ancestor Joseph and his asshole stepbrother Dio (no, not THE Dio) Brando.

They then recruit an emo, a black guy, a Frenchman, and the world’s douchiest Scottish bullterrier to travel from Japan to Egypt, to fight a blond British vampiric asshole and kicking the asses of a blind man, old woman, a topless guy covered in slime, an orphan and his elder brother, the son of an abusive drunk, a pervert and whatever eventually comes their way.

The heroes of the story possess “guardian spirits” that engage in high octane action, while they’re just standing there.

The show is definitely a typical battle anime, but when you watch it you find something more. You are thrown into a grand world with an overarching history. Many things are already established yet you don’t need to know that information to enjoy the anime. In fact, there is another series that precedes this one, which tells the tales of Joseph and his grandfather before him, which I highly recommend you watch (if you’re down with some thinly-veiled homoeroticism).

Now...

I will admit this anime is not for everyone. But if you’re the type of person that loves heavy action and craves terrible one-liners, then this is the show for you.
