ANT-MAN MOVIE REVIEW (NO SPOILERS)

Was honestly very skeptical going into Ant-Man not only cause of Edgar Wright’s departure from the movie but also the fact that I wasn’t sure I’d be entertained by a guy who could simply shrink himself. But just as Marvel entertained me with a talking tree, they certainly entertained me with Ant-Man.
On the surface, Ant-Man is a superhero origin story. However, it’s also an entertaining heist with a deep family dynamic and a passing the torch aspect which has made it Marvel’s best standalone origin story (yes, better than Captain America: The First Avenger, Thor 1 and even Iron Man 1).
Another serious concern I had before watching the movie was that it would be more of a comedy thus lowering the risk aspect as Marvel movies are usually funny but this movie continued to walk the comedic and dramatic line with such poise that it was funnier than most Marvel movies, while you still felt the emotional depth in the dramatic scenes.
All the performances given in this movie were amazing. Michael Douglas nailed the role of Hank Pym to the point where I can’t imagine another actor taking on the role and Evangeline Lily was an overall badass who had such great chemistry with Douglas as her father. Paul Rudd was a loveable and very relatable protagonist and Michael Pena literally stole every single scene he was in. Seriously guys, I choked up every time he opened his mouth.

Overall, Ant-Man is a great movie which offers something for everyone, even those who don’t like superhero movies as its funny, entertaining and continuously keep you at the edge of your seat. It is a refreshing movie with characters the audience can easily rally behind and any movie that can make me care so much about ants, has done something right in my book.
