BATMAN V SUPERMAN TRAILER 2 REVIEW

The purpose of a trailer is to get the audience talking and make them want to watch the movie. Being the biggest batman and superman fan I know, I didn’t even think this was possible, but this trailer proved me wrong. I really liked the first trailer but the second one blew my mind. It gave us more about the movie in three and a half minutes than we’ve received the past few months.

First of all, I love that the trailer proved what most Warner Brother executives have been saying about how the DC Cinematic universe differs from the Marvel one in that it is more realistic. This is evident from the fact that the first scene of the trailer is Superman going to a Senate hearing to give a testimony about the destruction of Metropolis in Man of Steel. The same was attempted in Iron Man 2 where Tony Stark was called by the government to give up the Iron Man armor as it was deemed too dangerous but quickly dismissed them and wasn’t a major plot point of the movie. However, it is evident that the destruction of Man of Steel and the fact that Superman is as powerful as he is will play a vital plot point in the movie not only cause of the Senate Hearing as it is will drive the conflict between batman and superman.

Secondly, the colour tone of the trailer was much brighter than the first trailer, Man of Steel and Watchmen as is common in most Zack Snyder movies. Despite the fact that I am a huge fan of Zack Snyder’s work, I have always found his choice of colour tone very dull and depressing and seeing that it has lightened up in the trailer makes me even more excited for the movie.

I also loved the short scene of Jeffrey Dean Morgan (was John Winchester in Supernatural and The Comedian in Watchmen) was revealed to be Thomas Wayne. There has been a lot of speculation that he would be Thomas Wayne ever since the leaked set picture of Thomas Wayne’s portrait and the fact that the trailer confirmed it left me screaming as I can only hope for an Earth 2 version where Jeffrey Dean Morgan plays The Dark Knight.

And not to forget WONDER WOMAN, WONDER WOMAN, WONDER WOMAN! Though her scenes in the trailer were short and without dialogue, she just exudes such confidence, power and overall badassery which makes me even more excited for her role the movie. To quote one of my favorite Wonder Woman lines, “Kal looks to the future, Batman looks to the past…and I reside in the present, securely bridging the two,” which perfectly exemplifies how I hope she will unite the two. I still firmly believe that the movie should primarily focus on Batman and Superman instead of Wonder Woman, but still believe she has an important role to play in it.

In summary, when the two most iconic superheroes clash in a movie directed by arguably the best visual director working today and an award winning screenwriter, the scale of greatness is elevated to a whole other level. To say the The Dark Knight and The Man of Steel have had a complicated relationship over the years is an understatement. This arises from the fact that the two characters differ so greatly from origins, up bringing, motivations and beliefs. However, they do have one fundamental thing in common, their need to help others and as a result can be considered two sides of the same coin. Two years ago when it was announced that the two would clash I was ecstatic and this trailer has surpassed that hype and will literally be counting down the days till March 25th 2016.
