Justice League: Gods and Monsters (Review)

Imagine a world where the Justice League is not the one you know. A world where Zod's bloodline lives on. Where the princess of the people did not come from the mists up.on the seas but from the stars above. Where the champion of the night is the same as the monsters he fights. This the world of gods and monsters. “Justice League: Gods and Monsters" is a perfect example of what elseworld storylines should be. It tells the tale of a Justice League founded by the child of General Zod, the heir to the throne of New Genesis, and the man who would have become Man-Bat. Each of these heroes holds the same values and goals as their Earth-1 counterparts, but they've chosen much more brutal ways to achieve them. The story is simple. The world's greatest scientific minds are being murdered in cold blood. The worst part is that whoever is pulling this off is making sure the Justice League is going to take the fall. In the case of this review, I could not possibly spoil the ending in good conscience, but I will say that it is a story concocted by the great Alan Burnett, so keep that in mind. The best part of this film is every cameo made by other characters in the DC universe. This includes Ray Palmer, Victor and Silas Stone, and Amanda Waller as the first Black and female president of the United States of America. Another great part of this revival of Bruce Timm running something is that there is a lot of companion material such as the web series that aired on the Machinima Network and prequel comics that were published around the same time which give you a look into the universe through our heroes. I only have one issue with the film. It's a film. When I see something from DC by Alan Burnett and Bruce Timm, I think: “can wait to see that on TV". I thought this was going to be the pair's return to television, but I guess I'll settle. With all that out of the way, it's time I tell whether or not to watch the movie. It's simple. Watch the movie, but you need to keep in mind you won't be getting anymore content than that. And you'll cry. And then cry some more. Or maybe I'm just projecting onto you the audience. Just watch the movie.
