Have you ever watched something so heartwrenching and beautiful that you had no other choice than to see it through to the end? If your answer is "No" then my response is either: (1) You're heartless, or (2) You clearly haven't seen Your Lie in April.
Your Lie in April is a 2014 anime by A-1 Pictures and directed by Kyohei Ishiguro.
It tells the the rather complicated life of piano prodigy, Kosei Arima. After his mother, who was also his instructor, passing away, he had a mental breakdown whilst performing that resulted in him not being able to hear the sound of his piano even though his hearing was perfectly fine. Two years later, he is living his life contently with his good friends Tsubaki and Watari, despite living in a monotone world without color or flair. But one day, a girl changed everything.
The stongest aspect of the show is it's characters, which should be expected of any show that grabs you by the feels and won't let go. The way Kosei and his friends interact makes you feel as if you're with them and a part of the group. this is so true i often found my self trying to comfort the characters during emotional low point and the realizing that i'm talking to my laptop and people are staring at me.
The animation style suit the anime perfectly especially in two specific cases.
(1) When someone is crying, and

(2) when a main character is playing a musical instrument.

Once again, A-1 Pictures hits the bullseye when it comes to animation.
The soundtrack is definitely my favourite part of Your Lie in April. With tracks like "Kousei wa Tensai da yo!", i can say that this anime is probably Jin Aketagawa's best work as a sound director.
And after spending a good two months in the fetal position situated in a corner in my basement, I have to recommend this anime to anyone with eyes.
All in all, best anime ever.
