With BBC America confirming the two part event special that just started filming this March, we’re here to tell you why you should be watching one of the most captivating crime thrillers in years.

1. THE PERFORMANCES

I’ve been an Idris Elba fan for years but can confidently say this is the most amazing performance I’ve seen him give so far ( though I haven’t watched Mandela a long walk to freedom). He adds such depth and charm to a character who’s lived such a depressing life and makes you care about him deeply. I can’t talk about the performances without mentioning the impeccable Ruth Wilson who steals almost every scene she’s in, which are mostly with Idris Elba which says a lot. Her character Alice at a first glance is a text book psychopath, but there is so much more. Seduction is her first language and the poise with which Ruth Wilson portrays her, has made Alice one of my favorite villains of all time.

2. THE VILLAINS

To say the villains in Luther are complex is an understatement. They exist within this grey area that that leave the audience rooting for them while constantly pushing the protagonist to his limits. The make you question your own morality, the police system and are constantly unpredictable.

3. THE DIALOGUE

Even if the performances were mediocre and the villains not complex, the writing in this show makes it still worth watching. Proof of this is that the shows writer, Neil Cross whose been nominated for two Primetime Emmy’s along with heavyweights like Steven Moffat and Ryan Murphy to name a few. It’s intriguing, sophisticated, intelligent and constantly keeps you at the edge of your toes.

4. THE STORY

We’ve all seen numerous damaged detectives on television that hide behind the law to protect their savage nature while firmly believing that the means justify the ends, but not quite like this. London is set up as this ‘beautiful monster’ in which homicide is a daily feast. Luther handles each case with all his devotion and bears the weight of every other victim on his shoulders. Moreover, each episode is unique in that there is no routine so something new and unexpected is waiting for you in the next episode.

Hope you’ll take our word for it and check it out yourselves.
