Yesterday, news broke out from the east when Turkey’s government declared Minecraft (yes, you read that right) as a threat to children’s mental development. How is this possible, you may ask? Well it’s quite a simple process and many are already familiar with it. Every so often countries (or at least their citizens) will have some issues with certain forms of media. A motion is put forth and then an investigation carried out. At the end of the investigation is completed the findings are reviewed and the a decision is made. In Turkey’s case, the findings “revealed” that although the game appears childish and fun, it is a means of rewarding the violent actions of the player with “drops” and “experience” (something seen as the staple of all games). The investigators also said that it “teaches” the player that killing innocent animals.
But what do think? Is Minecraft truly violent – does it deserve the ban?
